On May 16th, InnoKOL has a fascinating conversation with Mr. Tony Tong, co-founder of Com2000.org which is a web3 incubator and accelerator, and co-founder & co-chairman of the Hong Kong Blockchain Association, talking about his unique work experience and profound insights on blockchain & Web3.
Jokia Yin: How would you describe yourself in three words? What’s your motto?
Tony Tong:
Web1 - Web3 Builder.
Work hard, play hard.
Jokia Yin: Can you please share more about your educational and professional background? And we’d love to hear what brought you to blockchain.
Tony Tong:
I served as co-founder of Pacificnet from 2000 to 2007.From 1991 to 1999, and I worked for several lT industry leaders in the US, including Andersen Consulting, Seagate Technology(storage), Information Advantage (data dining) and DDS Inc (SAP system partner). I also provided mortgage automation workflow systems development and integration services for USBank.com and retail data warehousing systems for Target.com. I have a US patent for internet workflow automation. I graduated from the University of Minnesota with a bachelor's degree in mechanical industrial engineering and has served as an adjunct professor of internet technology at the University of Minnesota.
Jokia Yin: From your perspective, what’s unique and game-changing about blockchain technology?
Tony Tong:
Game Changing: Satoshi Bitcoin Whitepaper 2008.
The innovative applications of blockchain including: AI DePIN, Decentralized AI Computing, GameFi and Tokenomics.
I believe Blockchain Tokenomics is a revolution in the Financial and Technological development, evolution, trend, decentralization, Trust-less, no reliance on central control.
Jokia Yin: Will Hong Kong spot bitcoin ETFs success spark Asian crypto boom? What’s the future plan of Hong Kong Blockchain Association to stimulate the boom?
Tony Tong:
HK leads the world in approving Spot ETH ETF. SFC’s approval of spot Ethereum ether ETFs have “put Hong Kong ahead of the US and other regions”, giving it “first-mover advantage”, I believe this could attract the larger group of traditional stock investors in Hong Kong and Asia to enter the crypto investment starting with spot bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs.
HKBA.club members are involved in several ETF, e.g. 3066 BTC ETF, 3068 ETH ETF listed on HKEX, for traditional stock investors to join in crypto investment, easier with ETF.
RWA STO also promoted by HKBA and SFC.HK, to link traditional real world assets, real estates, etc. , with blockchain tokenomics.
Jokia Yin: How will you explain the distinctions between Metaverse and Web3?
Tony Tong:
Metaverse is 3D virtual world, AR, VR.
Web3 is more about: Web1 + Web2 + Value Internet provided by Blockchain Tokenomics.
Jokia Yin: How is Web3 shaping the future of finance?
Tony Tong:
In HK, many traditional SFC.HK licensed brokers are now moving to Web3 VASP crypto license, crypto fund license. China bans crypto trading / mining / exchange.
HK offers crypto VSAP licenses for crypto exchanges, OTC, mining, crypto investment fund SFC.HK type 9 crypto asset management licenses.
Jokia Yin: How AI and DePIN will change Web3?
Tony Tong:
AI will greatly increase human productivity, in Web3 also, very useful. AI is the greatest tool for productivity gain. AI DePIN is our investment direction. We did data center IDC, FIL, IPFS, ICP before, now we are investing in AI DePIN. Decentralized AI Infrastructure DePIN is also our investment direction.
